Thank You!

I would like to thank my family, friends, supporters, and the Lafayette community for the support and encouragement you have given me while I have served in public life. If you are not aware, I have decided to step down as Mayor in early December to dedicate my focus to my family and career.

When I turned 30 this August, I envisioned how I would like to spend the next decade of my life. Nearly all of my 20s were dedicated to some form of Lafayette politics, policy, and community — even before I was appointed to council in 2018 at 22 years old, I served on various youth committees, attended board meetings and community events, and dove into learning as much as I could about local policy. What drove me to serve my community to the best of my ability was to preserve Lafayette’s diverse community and rich history, while providing opportunities to residents from all walks of life the ability to flourish in our city. I leave public office feeling proud of how we fulfilled these goals. Of course, I couldn’t have achieved this without the support of our incredible city council members and staff, for whom I am thankful.

As I enter into the next chapter of my life, I am looking forward to spending some much-needed time with my family and expanding my professional background, while perhaps finding time to dedicate to local community service.

When I embarked on my political journey many years ago, I never sought to be a career politician. A Lafayette kid at heart, my intentions were solely focused on serving Lafayette and representing the community that raised, educated, and supported me. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve Lafayette and humbled and honored that this community entrusted me to serve them. I am eager to see a new generation of leadership take this mantle to continue to move Lafayette forward.

I leave office feeling deeply appreciative and excited for what the future will bring. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your friendship and support.

Sincerely,
JD Mangat
